Toni

“I already knew as a child where the buses and trams in Dresden went.”

Here is someone pulling the strings with passion – from planning to implementation.

“As a child, I definitely wanted to do something with trams and buses,” says DVB project manager Toni. His grandparents can confirm this: patiently, they accompanied their grandson on countless rides through Dresden – until he was finally allowed to do his school internship at DVB. His career began as an operations specialist. He drove trams for several years, completed his high school diploma during his training, and then studied transportation engineering – setting the course for his current position.

Today, he no longer drives the vehicles but steers DVB’s major construction projects. With his team, he plans and coordinates construction work that sustainably strengthens local public transport in Dresden. His expertise is appreciated not only locally – Toni now also exchanges ideas with professionals from Switzerland and Finland.

“Every now and then, I still drive a tram to see whether our plans work in practice – and simply because I enjoy it,” he says with pride. Toni lives for public transport – back then as a child, today as a project manager, and surely also in the future when it comes to advancing Dresden’s mobility.

Operations Specialist: Training for a strong future

Lea grew up with the rattling of trams, as the Gorbitz depot was right in her neighborhood and shaped her everyday life. Early on, the bustling activity there sparked her enthusiasm for public transport. Today, she is fulfilling this dream with her training as an operations specialist. “I’m currently in my third year of training, and I can say that it’s extremely varied.” Lea was particularly impressed by the introductory days at the start of the program, where trainees from all disciplines came together. “I think it’s great that I get to know so many different areas – from route network training to IT, the legal and mail departments, subscription services, and the various service points. There’s just everything. I even got to spend some time abroad in Prague.” Thanks to the wide-ranging insights into different departments and the strong commercial focus of the training, Lea will have numerous opportunities after graduation to advance her career at DVB in different directions.

“I really like the family-like work atmosphere and the feeling of being needed. Plus, I always wanted a job in Dresden, because I simply need this city.” For Lea, everything fits together perfectly – both professionally and personally.

Elisa Anja

“The dual study program at DVB is versatile and flexible, which is why it’s a perfect fit for me.”

The perfect start to a future-oriented career: The dual study program at DVB.

Versatile and flexible – these are the two words that come to Elisa’s mind right away when she talks about her dual business administration studies. She started the program three years ago together with DVB as her practical partner. “The best thing about the dual study program? I can put into practice at DVB what I learn in theory at the vocational academy – and I even get paid for it,” she says enthusiastically. The regular three-month alternation between theory and practice ensures that it never gets boring. Elisa loves immersing herself in her studies while also discovering the many facets of sustainable mobility.

“Especially for starting my career, DVB was the perfect choice,” Elisa notes. “I’m gaining an incredible amount of knowledge. On top of that, there are plenty of exciting workshops. And the discounted gym membership was a fantastic extra perk.” Sounds like a well-rounded package – one that’s simply a perfect fit.

René

“It’s great to contribute every day to keeping a huge rail network running smoothly.”

René: a mechanic through and through – both privately and at DVB.

René is a trained track builder and, in his private life, an enthusiastic vintage car fan and mechanic. His job as a switch locksmith at DVB is therefore a perfect fit for him. For the past year, René has also been working in a so-called mixed position, which allows him to bring in a second profession – in his case, as a driver for special vehicles.

“DVB is currently supporting me in renewing my truck driver’s license so that I can soon drive the special vehicles used for maintaining switches and roadways. I think that’s fantastic!” René is already thrilled with his work: “It’s a great feeling to contribute every day to the functioning of Dresden’s huge rail network and to be able to say at the end of the day: I took care of that section – everything’s rolling smoothly there again!”

Robert

“I truly enjoy going to work every single day.”

Robert is a project engineer for electromobility, actively shaping the transport transition in Dresden with DVB.

After completing his training as a mechatronics technician and his subsequent degree in vehicle engineering with a focus on commercial vehicles at HTW Dresden, Robert knew one thing for sure: he wanted to shape the mobility of tomorrow. Since 2021, he has been working as a project engineer for electromobility at DVB – exactly where he wants to be. “I’m specifically responsible for converting the bus network to e-mobility and for telematics – that is, the remote monitoring of our e-buses. These are incredibly varied tasks that allow me to constantly learn new things.” He especially values the nationwide exchange with other transport associations and the opportunity to advance e-mobility for DVB at the political level.

But what excites Robert just as much is the atmosphere within his team: “I enjoy the direct, constructive exchange with my colleagues. And I can truly say that I enjoy going to work every single day.”

René

“I love large vehicles and have always wanted to become a driving instructor. So being a bus driving instructor is the perfect combination for me.”

René has always had a passion for large vehicles and wanted to become a driving instructor. At DVB, he was able to fulfill both dreams at once: since 2015, he has been a bus driving instructor – for beginners as well as experienced staff who complete their regular driver checks and operational tests with him. But no matter who René trains in theory and practice, everyone benefits from his enthusiasm and expertise.

He especially values the flexibility and variety in his job. “You get around a lot, meet interesting people, and discover the many facets of modern mobility – such as efficient driving with e-buses.”

With René at their side, both the driving staff of tomorrow and today’s professionals receive top-notch training – always with an extra dose of passion and dedication.
